This Montepulciano from Caldora comes across as a slightly bigger, riper version of the ‘Abruzzo’ version. There’s plenty of black fruits and almost tarry notes on the nose, along with sniffs of mocha. The palate is medium to fuller-bodied, with chocolate-coated blackberries, licks of licorice and prunes, fine-grained tannins, bright acidity, and a juicy finish. Needs a nice slice of roast lamb for company. Red – Other Reds – Montepulciano
