Sound the Tassie trumpets! A prodigal Chardonnay has arrived! To give a little background, Cape Bernier is a tiny estate at Bream Creek, north of Hobart. Voted Tasmanian Vineyard of the Year in 2010, Cape Bernier is an almost twenty-year-old property with not only stunning views of Marion Bay, but a perfect north facing spot. It’s beautiful wine country! This 2016 Cape Bernier Tasmanian Chardonnay is a cracker too. Made only in the best vintages, the Chardonnay uses multiple different clones, different barrel ages and forests and a combination of wild and cultured yeasts for fermentation. Little wonder that this crisp, yet complex, Chardonnay gets 95 points nearly every vintage (the 2012, for example, has 95 from Huon Hooke and won a gold medal at the Tassie Wine Show).
