This NV Champagne Georges Lacombe Grand Cuvee is a serious fizz. A blend of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay, it includes 25% reserve wine in the blend and was aged for up to 36 months on lees. To give you a bit of perspective, that’s almost twice the proportion of reserve wine of the $70 Laurent Perrier, and twice the lees ageing of Moet NV. In other words, it’s high quality sparkling. This has received some great critical acclaim too, with the French Guide Hachette de Vins noting that ‘Balance is the key word to sum up this cuvée, which combines vivacity and richness, while delivering intense notes of white flowers, dried fruits and honey’ and giving it two stars – equivalent to ‘remarkable’ on their scale.
