Now under the watchful care of Henri Lurton, Chateau Brane-Cantenac comprises 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and lesser plantings of Cabernet Franc and Carmenere. Planted on fine, gravel soils, the estate proffers full-bodied wines of concentration and intensity, though oak use is kept to below 50% new for these prestigious wines. 2010 has produced a wine of satiny-textured, glossy fruit, with deep concentration and richness. Though the wine wouldn’t be set to ‘blockbuster’ status, it is a profoundly excellent example of Margaux wine, and thankfully approachable within five years, for some earlier drinking pleasure. That being said, the wine will mature well for 30 years.
