While Grange is a full-bodied expression of shiraz, St Henri serves as the medium-bodied counterpoint that still adheres to Penfolds' blending ethos. This year's release is a blend of 97% shiraz and 3% cabernet sauvignon. Generous cherry liqueur/ chocolate aromas and savoury black olive, coffee and mocha flavours with pomegranate, cranberry, quince paste-induced acidity. 'This a superb vintage of St Henri in a seamless and elegant style compared to many recent vintages. It is Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Eden Valley and Port Lincoln fruit with the Eden component the most overt right now with bay leaf, green peppercorns, mulberry, cocoa and blackberry fruit well matched by supple oak. The palate is sensational – with exceptional concentration and seamless balance with a rush of fine-grained tannins to finish giving silkiness and poise. Already so drinkable.'
