Surrounded by the esteemed estates of Vieux-Chateau Certan, Petrus and Le Pin, Chateau Certan De May divides its fruit between around 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, but this wine is more balanced between Cabernet Franc and Merlot than the vineyards suggest. The sand-over-clay site produced a wine of ripeness, choc-berry character and a firm tannin profile – from 2010, the wine shoould be cellared for a medium term, and can be approached within five years for earlier drinking pleasure. The estate remains unclassified, but experts consider it amongst the greats of Pomerol.
