Although a reasonably sizeable estate for Sauternes, covering some 75 hectares of vineyards, Chateau Rieussec still manages to maintain its reputation at the very upper end of Sauternes wines, anchored by its distinguishable richness density and concentration in style. The vineyards are located adjacent to Chateau d’Yquem, and the property is owned by doyens of Bordeaux in the Domaines Barons de Rothschild. The vineyards are planted to 89% S?millon, 8% Sauvignon Blanc and 3% Muscadelle with low-yielding vines. The fruit is fermented in stainless steel and oak barrels, before maturing in around 70% new oak for up to two years. In best vintages, Rieussec will rival d’Yquems famed wines.
