Xabregas has produced some of the most impressive Riesling in Australia, utilising a selection of vineyards in WA’s beautiful Great Southern to craft an array of genuinely intriguing wines. With the 2014 Xabregas Artisan Riesling, Paul has aimed for a wine ‘cut from a different cloth’. Hand-picked, wild fermented and matured in old oak barrels, this dry white wine has a very unique style – mighty fresh and crisp, yet with extra richness and complexity thanks to the almost Chardonnay-like handling, the supercharged acidity making it deliciously fresh to finish. Back in mid-2016, James Halliday gave this Riesling 94 points and praised how the winemaking only helps enhance the beautifully dry style. 18 months later and he’d likely be even more of a fan now, as the edges have softened even further, making this more a really complete drink (and a superb wine).
